In California, we don’t have snow.  (At least, not where people are farming – we keep it in the mountains where it CA Hoophousebelongs.)  And we don’t have very many days below freezing.  But we still have weather in the winter – wet, cold rains that turn fields into bogs, splash dirt on every leaf in sight, and generally send small farmers scurrying into their warm, snug homes for two or three months.
