Cory on shellerWe grow a lot of peas: English peas in the spring, and fresh southern peas Pinkeye Purplehull, Cream 40, Lady Peas, and an heirloom pea that’s called McGahee. After several years of sore thumbs from shelling peas, earlier this year we bit the bullet and purchased a “Little Sheller” from Taylor Manufactoring Company for about $475. We wanted to use it at the farm, and also thought it would make a great addition to our market stand, along with our pepper roaster. The trouble is, there are no electrical outlets at the market, so we had to brainstorm ways to make the sheller work without the attached motor.
